National Parliament for Women held at Kalakshetra in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Commission for Women, in association with the National Commission for Women, organized a National Parliament for Women at the Madhabdev Auditorium of the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here recently, stated a press release.

The programme started with lighting of the ceremonial lamps by the guests, Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson of the Assam State Commission for Women with assistance of the members of the commission.

The welcome Address was delivered by Dr Hemaprova Borthakur, the Chairperson of Assam State Commission for Women.

Member-Secretary of the Assam State Commission for Women, Cauvery Sharma, and members of the Assam State Commission for Women, Rupa Kaman, Nang Lucky Gogoi, Babita Sharma, Parami Das, Barnali Barua, Binita Saikia Dey and Mamoni Bora felicitated the guests.

There were two technical sessions addressed by following resource persons: Bijon Mahajan, advocate, Gauhati High Court, spoke on the topic 'Women in Politics'; Dr Aparajita Borkotoki, former Dean, Faculty of Science, spoke on 'Women in Education; Chayarani Goswami, retired Judge, District & Sessions Court, spoke on 'Women in Judiciary'; Dr Barnali Sarmah Barua, member, Juvenile Justice Board, Sonitpur spoke on 'Women in Society; Syed Zarir Hussain, Managing Editor, News Live TV, spoke on 'Women in Media'; Subhash Basumatary, Ex-Director, Sports Authority of India, spoke on 'Women in Sports'; and Monica Devi, MFA, spoke on 'Women in Arts'.
