GUWAHATI: The National Road Safety Month, 2021 was inaugurated here on Wednesday. The Road Safety Month aims to create awareness regarding road safety and traffic rules among the general public. The Month will conclude on February 17.
Addressing the people, Deputy Inspector General of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta said, "Every year, the Government organizes Road Safety Month to create awareness among the people. However, we are unable to reduce the road accidents in the State." Mahanta underlined that ever year above one lakh people are killed in road accidents across the nation. Further, District Transport Officer, Kamrup (Metro) Gautam Das stated that, "Over 4,000 people die in road accidents every year in Assam. This year we are aiming to reduce the number of road accidents."
On the occasion, the State Transport Department organized a drama and district-level drawing competition on the theme Path Suraksha-JivanSuraksha.
The dignitaries who were present in the ceremony include - Additional Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) MrinmoyGoswami, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pranjit Bora, and former District Transport Officer Dwijen Das.
