GUWAHATI: A district level joint mockdrill on earthquake disaster with district stakeholders was conducted at Girls High School Palashbari District-Kamrup Rural, Assam to ensure effective response by all stakeholders, officials in case of emergency. 1st BN NDRF took active participation and assisted DDMA in planning and coordination at the initial stage and played a leading role during the conducted mock drill. Two officers, medical officer and 40 rescuers of NDRF participated in the mock drill. NDRF, SDRF, Fire Service, Health Service, Sun Pharma Ltd, Ajanta Pharma Ltd, IOC Sarpara and Assam Police participated in the exercise.
NDRF rescuers during the exercise used various extrication methods like rope rescue, high rise rescue and victim stabilization after triage of victims following the disaster site safety plan.
On this occasion, Anil Chauhan, Officiating Commandant First Bn NDRF said, "These exercises ensure activation and prompt response of all stake holders in a district and such frequent mock drills also make the district response system more effective and result oriented at the time of actual disaster. Mock drills provide suitable platform and sustainable mechanism for state and central authorities for synchronization and rapid employment of rescuers at District level. These exercises should be frequently conducted in every district as the whole NE region falls under high risk zone in terms of earthquake."
The exercise concluded in evening with a note to organize more such exercise in future so that the effective response operations during earthquake could be carried out to save precious human lives, stated a release.
