GUWAHATI: A meeting of the Vice-Chancellors, Principals of autonomous colleges, engineering colleges, medical colleges and IQAC coordinators of Higher Educational Institutions was held on Tuesday in the Assam Administrative Staff College for presenting the policy implementation strategy and to deliberate upon the institutional as well as curriculum based structural revamping to redesign higher educational institutions in line of National Education Policy, 2020.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ranoj Pegu, State Education Minister, along with Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Adviser, Education Department, Government of Assam, Preetom Saikia, Special Commissioner, Education Department, Dr. Deepak Mazumder, Secretary, Higher Education, Dharmakanta Mili, Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Assam.

Dr. Ranoj Pegu, in his opening remarks, stated that NEP-2020 was an opportunity to redefine education scenario in the State. Prof. Mahanta gave a comprehensive presentation on the model implementation guidelines, prepared after due discussion and deliberation, as envisioned by the Government of Assam. He presented a four-year undergraduate degree model along with a five-year integrated UG and PG model.

The Vice-Chancellors presented certain valuable insights out of their experience in policy implementation ranging from need-based reconfiguration of CBCS structure with the possibility to explore the possibility to approach 20-40% of the syllabus using MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course), development of a comprehensive Institutional Development Plan, to following of ODL (Open Distance Learning) regulations for Open Universities.

The Education Minister reaffirmed his commitment to implement NEP 2020 in strict adherence to the laid guidelines. He asserted on the need for uniformity of core courses, academic calendar, grading system in synergy with the implementation strategy.
