GUWAHATI: The North East Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturers’ Association (NEPDWMA) has thanked the state government for revising their proposed ban on packaged drinking water.

The Assam government had previously proposed a ban on packaged drinking water containers below 1 litre in volume. However, a collective effort led by the North East Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturers’ Association, with the support of their partner organizations, successfully advocated for the government to reconsider this ban and implement the ban for bottles below 500 ml.

This revised ban not only addresses concerns related to water quality and environmental sustainability but also takes into consideration the convenience and accessibility of safe drinking water for the public, which strikes a crucial balance that ensures consumer well-being and industry sustainability.

They extended their gratitude to the government for its receptiveness to the concerns and for demonstrating a commitment to a fair and pragmatic solution. They called this decision a testament to the government’s responsiveness and dedication to the welfare of its citizens and industries, and it shows the commitment of the government to the overall industrial growth of the region.

NEPDWMA also announced a significant development in collaboration with various organisations such as the PET Packaging Association for Clean Environment (PACE), the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Federation of Industry and Commerce of the North Eastern Region (FINER), the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), and Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB).

They also thanked all the members of the North East Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturers’ Association for their dedication, unity, and tireless efforts in this important endeavour, adding that it is through your collective strength and shared vision that we were able to bring about this change for the better. They also expressed their belief that the revised ban will greatly benefit the public and all stakeholders, and it is a testament to what can be achieved when industry, organisations, and the government work together towards a common goal.
