Guwahati: Assam Government on Wednesday announced a new set of guidelines for air passengers travelling to Assam. Making things easy for travellers, from next week onwards, passengers coming to Assam via flights will have to undergo COVID test at the Guwahati airport itself. They will not have to travel to Xarusajai stadium. Anyone travelling within the state and between Northeastern states would no longer need to go for mandatory COVID testing.
Assam Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the information on his Twitter account.
"From next week- 1. #COVID19 test for incoming flight passengers will be done in Guwahati Airport itself instead of Xarusajai. 2. Air passengers travelling within Assam and those travelling between North East States will no longer require mandatory #COVID19 testing," tweeted Sarma.
On Tuesday, the health minister shared the COVID update of the state. The total active COVID cases in Assam is 3,329. The recovery rate of the state is 97.96%, and the mortality rate is 0.45%. A total of 966 people died of the deadly virus in the state.
Earlier in October, the government of Assam has already eased COVID-19 rules for the flight passengers. It said that the passengers coming in from outside Assam do not have to go for a mandatory test if they had already done a test in their place of origin, 72 hours before their travelling. However, they will have to carry important documents along with them.
Sarma also mentioned that children below 10 years of age do not have to go for mandatory testing. It solely depends upon their parents if they want their child to undergo the test or not.
