An added attraction for city residents during puja

GUWAHATI: The finishing touch is being to the new flyover over RG Barua Road and it will be inaugurated on Thursday. It will be a new T-wing at the Ganeshguri intersection over Bishnu Rabha Flyover connecting RG Baruah Road to the flyover.
Once inaugurated, traffic congestion in busy RG Barua Road and Ganeshguri is expected to be reduced to a large extent.
The total length of flyover wing is 398.5 metres and the carriage way (width) of flyover is 27 metres. The flyover has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 58.47 crore. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of the flyover on March 6, 2019.
Speaking to The Sentinel, Executive Engineer, PWD Pranab Rabha said, "If we count from the day of foundation laying stone then it has taken one-and-half years to complete the construction. But if we count from the date of actual construction then it has taken only a year."
Sources said that long lockdown from April to June had helped in expediting the construction of the flyover.
The crash barriers of the new flyover are being painted by artistes to depict the diverse and unique culture of Assam. Adequate lighting facility has been installed over the flyover.
Since the flyover is being inaugurated during the Durga Puja festival it will be added attraction for the city residents.
Sources said, "The plan to construct another wing of the Bishnu Rabha Flyover connecting Ganesh Mandir the near Assam Assembly Secretariat has been put on hold due to technical reasons."
