GUWAHATI: In accordance with a directive of the Supreme Court, the District Road Safety Committee of Kamrup (M) was reconstituted on Monday at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Bipul Kumar Das.

The new committee has the Deputy Commissioner as its Chairman and various officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), PWD, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Police Department, Transport Department and NGOs as officials and members.

After explaining the objectives at the meeting, Assistant Transport Commissioner Gautam Das analysed the causes of road accidents and urged the concerned departments to take necessary action for road safety. Additional Deputy Commissioner Bipul Kumar Das, on the other hand, called upon all to create a proper awareness among the people about the 'Samaritan' award given by the Government for those who have provide immediate rescue and treatment to seriously-injured road accident victims and the Government's Solatium fund for those who die in accidents.
