GUWAHATI: In order to facilitate genuine passengers and to curb the menace of ticketless travel, the ticket checking drive has been intensified, leading to the detection of 86,096 cases of traveling without tickets/ irregular tickets in October 2019 as against 66,172 detected during the corresponding period of last year. An amount of Rs. 559.43 lakh was also realized from without ticket / irregular ticket passengers as fine / penalty during October this year as compared to Rs. 429.63 lakh last year, a press release said.
The increase in earnings is about 30.21% and the increase in number of cases detected is about 30.11% in comparison to same period of last year.
During the period from April to October, 2019 as many as 6,31,580 passengers were found to be travelling either without ticket or with irregular ticket in trains and NFR realized Rs. 4,237.06 lakh as penalty from them. This is substantially higher than last year’s detection figure of 4,80,666 passengers and realization of Rs. 3,312.59 lakh for the corresponding period. The increase is about 27.91% in respect to earnings and 31.40% in the number of cases detected, the release added.
