Nine-year-old girl raped near Kamakhya; rapist arrested in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: In an appalling incident, a nine-year old girl was allegedly raped by a photographer based at Kamakhya Temple in Nilachal Hills in the city.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday night near the VIP car parking outside the Kamakhya Temple.

According to sources, a photographer identified by police as Nayan Haloi, was accused of raping the minor girl in front of her mother. The incident is said to have happened on Friday night and the FIR was filed by the mother at Kamakhya police outpost on Saturday morning.

It was reported that the victim girl and her mother had been seen begging outside the Kamakhya Temple for the past few months. They used to stay overnight under the foot over bridge.

The victim's mother approached the Kamakhya police outpost for help and has also lodged an FIR against the accused. Police acted promptly and arrested the accused later on Saturday.

The photographer Haloi hails from Mukalmua and has been staying near Kamakhya Temple in the city.
