GUWAHATI: Guwahati-based North East United Football Club has replaced the position of the head coach of the team following their pathetic performance in the current season.

The 2022-23 edition of the Indian Super League kicked off in the month of October just after Durga Puja. It is almost halfway through now as the tournament is scheduled to end in March.

North East United had played a total of eight matches this season, out of which four were at its home ground, the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Guwahati. The management had previously decided to bench its best players during the Durand Cup to perform well in the ISL, leading to the

Just ahead of the next home match against Chennaiyin FC on Saturday, the team has relieved Marco Balbul of his duties as the Head Coach of the team and Vincenzo Annese takes over his position.

Vincenzo Alberto Annese is not a new name in Indian football. The Italian footballer was the person responsible for guiding Gokulam Kerala FC to I-League wins from 2020-22 making them the first Indian Club to achieve that feat. The team also featured in the AFC Cup. Vincenzo Annese had parted ways with the club from Kerala before the Durand Cup.

While the fans of the team expressed their unhappiness against the team management for this action, the management expects the new coach to take the team to win in the upcoming games. But only time will tell if the change in mentorship can help the team that has been plagued by leaving players in any way.

NEUFC still has six home and five away matches left in the preliminary stage of the game.
