GUWAHATI: The North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) has demanded Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s intervention in the recent move of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to enhance the electricity tariff on fixed charge and energy charge.

There is a separate category of tariff for tea, coffee and rubber plantations and the tariff of this category is the second highest, only after oil & coal sectors.

“Assam Tea Industry is already under threat due to the adverse market scenario that has been prevailing for last few years. Such a steep hike of fixed charge and energy charge on electricity consumption will be detrimental to the tea industry,” NETA adviser, Bidyananda Barkakoty said.
