GUWAHATI: In order to further improve rail connectivity of Agartala with the rest of the country, Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway has decided to extend the service of Guwahati-Kolkata-Guwahati Express up to Agartala.
Train No 02518/02517 (Guwahati-Kolkata-Guwahati) Express will be extended up to Agartala with a new train No 02502/02501 (Agartala-Kolkata-Agartala) Express once a week. Both the trains will run up to April 30, 2023. The inaugural special of this extension will be flagged off by the President of India on October 13 from the Agartala Railway Station, stated a press release.
FREIGHT: Meanwhile, another press release informed that NF Railway has been continuously registering growth in freight loading and unloading by operating round the clock. The freight trains are carrying commodities which are essential and non-essential to fulfil the demand of consumables and other inputs.
During the current financial year up to September, 5.88 million tonne of commodities have been loaded, compared to 4.82 million tonne during the same period of the previous year. Similarly, 16.56 million tonne of commodities have been unloaded up to September of the current financial year, compared to 13.49 million tonne during the same period of the previous year. Collectively loading and unloading in NF Railway increased by 22.44 million tonne, as compared to 18.31 million tonnes during the same period of the previous year.
This is an increase of 22.57% in comparison to the corresponding period of the previous year, stated a press release.
NF Railway is exploring all possible ways to boost the freight loading and unloading performance. Freight transportation by rail is safer and quicker than roadways and is the must environment-friendly mode available for customers, stated a press release.
