One more arrested in 'Pre-Matric Scholarship Fund' scam by CID

GUWAHATI: Another prime accused in the 'Pre-Matric Scholarship Fund' case was arrested by the CID sleuths on Monday.

The accused Robiul Islam of Beltola Nepalikhuti is a mastermind and was involved in submitting fraudulent applications for scholarship and withdrawal of scholarship amount. The CID requested the Court for 10 days Police remand for him and the court allowed seven days of police remand.

Meanwhile, arrested accused namely Baten Ali and Zakir Hussain have been sent to judicial custody on completion of their four days police remand.

Further, the Court allowed another three-day police remand for arrested accused namely Sukumuddin.

Till date a total of 26 persons have been in this case (20/2020 U/S 120(B)/406/409/419/420/468/471 IPC) which has been registered at the CID Police Station.

This scam of around Rs 10 crore is related to the misappropriation of the Central fund meant for student beneficiaries for the fiscals 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. It has been found that many undeserving students have been enjoying the funds.
