GUWAHATI: After so many all the mixed reactions from political leaders to different organizations on the final NRC since its publication on August 31, Abdul Khaleque claimed that those who are negatively criticizing the NRC are actually dishonouring the Supreme Court. Addressing the media at the Guwahati Press Club on Friday Abdul Khaleque said, “It’s not logical to harass the same people for verifying their identity after being identified by the Supreme Court. It’s true that actual Indian citizens have been excluded from the final NRC, but at the same time we shouldn’t forget that after a year-long wait, we’ve reached a point to solve a major issue that the state has been dealing with. It’s just a starting point, so a few problems might arise. From my perspective the final NRC is a historic document that we’ve received, it’s a scientific document. If anyone had problem with the cut off year, they should’ve appealed to the Supreme Court earlier. At present it’s totally baseless to decry for a new NRC.” He further added that AASU should stick to their earlier statement and not be provocated by others.
