GUWAHATI: The State Government has decided to subjoin some other beneficiary-based schemes with the flagship Orunodoi scheme, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog disclosed here on Sunday.

Talking to the media at the BJP office at Hengerabari, Neog further informed that certain teams will visit every beneficiary household during July and August to verify whether any ineligible person is benefitting under the Orunodoi scheme. The teams will also affix a logo of the Orunodoi scheme on the houses of the beneficiaries. If any ineligible is found to be currently enjoying the benefit of Orunodoi, then that person will be dropped from the list of beneficiaries, she said.

Another verification drive will be carried out after two years and if the economic condition of any beneficiary is found to have improved by that time, then the person concerned will be dropped from the list of beneficiaries.

A presentation will be made regarding the impending verification process during ongoing the Deputy Commissioners' conference at Tezpur, Neog said.

The Finance Minister further said that the Government will appeal to ineligible beneficiaries to voluntarily surrender the benefit under the Orunodoi scheme.

The decision to subjoin other beneficiary-based schemes with Orunodoi has been taken with a view to simplifying the process because it is difficult to run too many similar schemes at the same time, she said. As such, the plan is to bring all schemes under one portal so that all details of a beneficiary can be easily accessed. One of the schemes to be subjoined with Orunodoi is the Divyangjan pension scheme, under which Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) receive Rs 1,000 per month.

Neog disclosed that Orunodoi will be soon linked with Aadhar cards. She said that currently there are around 20 lakh women beneficiaries in the State under this scheme and another 6 lakh beneficiaries will be added soon.

On the other hand, reacting to reports that the Centre will stop the system of paying GST compensation to States and Union Territories, Neog said that the State Government has already requested the Centre to continue the system for some more time. She, however, said that at the same time the State Government is also laying stress on increasing its own revenue collection.
