GUWAHATI: The ambitious and widely publicized Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) has not enlightened much the residents as well as the commuters at Paltan Bazaar area. A brief look at the street located between the Paltan Bazaar police station and the ASTC bus stop which connects the foot bridge leading to the Gauhati Railway Station portray enough of this gloomy picture. Leaving aside the other corners of the state, if a central location like Paltan Bazaar area itself remains aloof from the Swacchta, we can easily assume the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Presently, due to lack of spaces inside the Paltan Bazaar police station premise, numbers of seized vehicles have been dumped at this particular spot. Notably, including the police vehicles, other individuals also park their vehicles in this place. Moreover, neither the GMC staffs nor anyone else has cleaned that street ever.

Since the street is also the exit point of the ASTC buses connecting to the GS Road, the passengers and the commuters alike consider the street as dumping ground for various dry and wet waste increasing the magnitude of garbage storage which is causing health hazards. Moreover, numbers of seized vehicles dumped on the street have also been appearing as another challenge to clean the spot.
