GUWAHATI: Peace parleys are on with 11 militant outfits of the State, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while giving a written reply to a written question by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) Biswajit Phukan in the Assam Assembly on Monday. The Chief Minister also holds the Home portfolio.

These 11 militant organisations are the ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) (Pro-talk); KLNLF (Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front); ACMA (Adivasi Cobra Militant of Assam); BCF (Bircha Commando Force); KRA (Kuki Revolutionary Army); UKDA (United Kukigam Defence Army); KLO/ KLA (Kuki Liberation Organisation/ Kuki Liberation Army); HPC-D (Hmar People's Convention-Democratic); APA (Adivasi People's Army); AANLA (All Adivasi National Liberation Army); and STF (Santhal Tiger Force).

Since 2016 till July 5, 2021, altogether 3,439 cadres of various militant organisations surrendered, said the Chief Minister, adding that the government has initiated many rehabilitation schemes for them. In a subsequent phase, many among them also deposited 748 arms and 19,299 ammunitions.

He added that since 2016 till July 6, 2021, cases were registered against some members of various militant groups; and from them, a total of 1,306 arms; 20,722 ammunition; 89 bombs; 599 grenades and 121.725 kg of explosives were seized.
