GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asom Devalaya Sangha (SADS) has expressed the need for immediate peace talks between the Centre and the ULFA-I (United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent). The Sangha assured that it will extend all possible help for the conduct of peace talks.

In a statement, SADS president Suresh Chandra Bhattacharya and secretary-general Kailash Sarma asserted that a healthy atmosphere has prevailed between the ULFA-I and the government after Himanta Biswa Sarma took the chair of Chief Minister.

"ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah immediately responded to the CM's appeal and released ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) officer Ritul Saikia. Designating Sarma as a shrewd politician, Baruah also announced a three-month-long ceasefire to build a good relationship with the government. The doors for discussions between the ULFA and the government have opened," said SADS president Suresh Chandra Bhattacharya.

The SADS underlined that the CM should hold discussions with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister regarding making peace with the ULFA-I. "The peace talks should be held amid the ceasefire. It can be held either in Delhi or the State. This is the right time and we are ready to assist in any way. We also appeal to all political parties, and other organizations to unite and support the peace process," SADS secretary-general Kailash Sarma added.
