Guwahati : Under a gloomy sky, people across Assam have observed Janata Curfew on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday night, while addressing the nation on the novel coronavirus threat, called upon all the people to observe a Janata Curfew on Sunday from 7 am to 9 pm to thwart the spread of the deadly virus. Responding to the call people kept themselves in their homes and hence, all roads have been seen deserted. In Guwahati, all roads and public places have been deserted by people and shops were closed. Similarly, all roads and public places across the state were deserted by the public. Several social media users have uploaded the photos of the deserted roads and public places of their respective localities. The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration and the Assam Chamber of Commerce have appealed to all people to observe Janata Curfew as appealed by Prime Minister Modi. Besides, the Chamber of Commerce has appealed all traders to observe 'Vyapar Bandh'(Close Down of the shops and business establishments) on March 23 to curb the threat of the COVID-19. On the other hand, a section of people has raised the demand for complete lock-down for somedays as the number novel coronavirus infected people swelled in the country.
