GUWAHATI: On the one hand, the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs of the Assam Government inaugurated the bioremediation process of Silsako Beel and demonstrated diversion of the Bahini River to Silsako Beel, and on the other hand, the people affected by the Silsako eviction drive protested against the steps taken by the State Government.

On Wednesday, hundreds of people who were affected by the eviction drive in the Silsako Beel area of the city wore black badges as a mark of protest against the State government on the day that the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led State Government completed two years at the office. The protesters demanded that the State government return their land and create jobs for those who had been evicted from the region.

The protesters also threatened to intensify their protests if their demands were not met. They also complained that while the Chief Minister of State had promised them proper rehabilitation and compensation, no such action has been taken to date. They also mentioned that even after several demands, they have not received any response from the state government. "While the state was celebrating Bohag Bihu and world records were being created, we were busy with a hunger strike to get back our lands, but the State Government continues to turn a blind eye towards our suffering," said one of the protesters.
