GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has taken up a PIL (46/2022) filed by an advocate named Sandeep Chamaria regarding the flood problem of Assam.

The petitioner has raised four basic issues. Firstly, he has sought that steps be taken for a permanent solution to the flood problem by implementing various water management schemes in an expeditious manner, so that the next generation can be saved from this kind of disaster.

Secondly, the petitioner has sought implementation of various Government schemes for rehabilitation of the flood-affected people of the State.

Thirdly, he has sought immediate reconstruction of all broken embankments in order to protect the people who are living near the overflowing rivers.

Fourthly, the petitioner has sought that the Central Government should declare the floods of Assam as a 'National Disaster' and then take necessary steps for evolving a permanent solution to the problem.

The High Court has directed the Government to respond to the issues on the next date of hearing, which is July 25.
