Guwahati: While fly-overs and foot-over bridges are coming up all over Guwahati city, there are certain areas of West Guwahati like Lokhra where having proper, good roads is nothing less than a luxury. The bad, broken roads of Lokhra, an area which is fast becoming a busy trade and residential area, has become a major cause of concern for the residents and traders of the area.

The condition of the road connecting the VIP road in Lokhra leading to Beharbari is a clear indication of the kind of work that the Assam government has done. Most of the road stretches in the area is far from complete. The half-done roads are adding to the miseries of the locals of the area.

The locals of the area have informed Ramendra Narayan Kalita, MLA of 53 Pub Guwahati constituency several times regarding the poor condition of the road but he is yet to do anything to fix the roads.

The locals stated that they have been facing difficulties in communication for a long time as the road gets blocked every time rain comes. Several accidents also have taken place on this road due to its poor conditions. The patients coming to the hospital have to face a lot of difficulties, the local residents said.

Earlier when the locals of the area held a meeting regarding the road, MLA Kalita had promised to build the road. However, Kalita did not take any step to solve the issue or to build the road.

Apart from the bad road condition, the people of the area are also facing scarcity of water and the government is yet to address the water problem too.
