Power cuts plague Kharghuli residents in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The residents of the Kharghuli area of the city have been plagued by frequent power cuts on a daily basis over the last few days and some households have even suffered damage to electrical appliances due the frequent load-shedding.

When contacted, division officials of the Guwahati Electrical Circle-I, Guwahati (North) admitted that power cuts had been happening in the area for a few days, but the reason for that is not insufficiency of power supply. They said that since Kharghuli is a hilly area, the department is being forced to stop electricity supply at times due to damage caused by heavy seasonal rainfall. They said that at times branches of trees snap and fall on electrical wires due to rain and strong winds and the electricity supply is disrupted till necessary repairs are carried out.

The officials said that if the department has to cut the electricity supply to any area for a lengthy period of time for other purposes, then consumers of the area concerned are alerted about it via mobile phone messages.

They further clarified that if any individual resident of a specific area is facing excessive power cuts, then the consumer should lodge a complaint with the nearest electricity department office and the matter will be looked into by the department.
