GUWAHATI: The 11th edition of Pragjyoti International Dance Festival (PIDF), an annual classical dance extravaganza conceptualized to exhibit the wide range of Indian dance traditions through dance, will be held in Guwahati from January 31 to February 1 at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra.
Addressing a press Conference at Guwahati Press Club on Monday, Kalpa, a society for promotion of literature, art, culture, made this announcement.
PIDF festival director Dr. Anwesa Mahanta announced that the festival, replete with performances, film screening, and panel discussions on art, music and dance will be celebrated at Sri Sri Madhavdeva International Auditorium, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati on January 31 and February 1.
The curtain raiser will feature a performance of Pung Cholam by artistes of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy, Imphal followed by Bharatanatyam performance by Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awardee Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya.
As a part of valuing the educative component of arts, the festival will also include an illustrated talk on ‘Tightly Plaited: Relationship between Literature, Dance and Indian Dramaturgy’ by distinguished scholar and columnist Dr. Arshiya Sethi.
Besides screening of a rare Xatriya dance documentary followed by a discussion with Padmashri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Ghanakanta Bora, Padmashri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Ratna Jatin Goswami, the festival will also have a series of interesting panel discussions and an Odissi dance performance by Vinod Kevin Bachan from West Indies and many others.
