GUWAHATI: A planning meeting under the Assam State Primary Teachers Association (ASPTA) to conduct the Bharat Yatra led by the All India Primary Teachers Federation on Sunday demanded the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
Representatives of teachers' organizations from the state participated in the meeting. Regarding the Bharat Yatra, a song, a poster, and three appeals were launched by the Convener, Join Council of Trade Unions, Gargaram Talukdar. The song was composed by Haren Gogoi, a teacher from Charaideo district. Unveiling the poster, songs, and appeals, Talukdar said the march would force the central government to cancel the New Pension System.
A month-long journey to restore OPS will commence on September 5 from Assam, Wagha Border, Somnath, and Kanyakumari, and will gather in New Delhi on October 5 to hold a protest rally. The protest on October 5 will be attended by representatives of teachers' organizations from several countries, and the leader of Educational International will be present.
This Bharat Yatra journey in Assam will be led by the ASPTA. The yatra will commence on September 5 in Guwahati. They will hold protests on September 6 in Sivsagar, Bishwanath on September 7, Nalbari on September 8, and Kokrajhar on September 9.
On the second meeting on Sunday, how to make the Bharat Yatra a successful one was discussed. In this regard, all the associations are asked to join the yatra with their own flags and banners. The meeting discussed the fact that the memoranda from the associations will be submitted to the Prime Minister through the All India Primary Teachers Federation.
