GUWAHATI: With the clarion call of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, 'Poshan Maah' is being observed, to improve the nutritional outcome for children, adolescent, pregnant women and lactating mothers across the country during the month of September and to address the issue of Malnutrition on a mission mode. Accordingly, Press Information Bureau, Guwahati organised a webinar on 'Poshan Abhiyaan' on Wednesday where discussion on the importance of nutrition was discussed threadbare. The theme of the webinar was 'POSHAN Abhiyaan– Women and Child Empowerment with Healthy Nutrition.'

In his welcome address, Joint Director PIB, Guwahati Samrat Bandopadhyay highlighted how Poshan Abhiyaan intends to significantly reduce malnutrition in the next three years. He also informed that the chief objective of the mission is to reduce the level of under-nutrition and also enhance the nutritional status of children in the country by 2022.

Joint Director Social Welfare Department, Assam Manjori Borthakur had elaborated on the overall Poshan Abhiyaan in Assam and how the mission is going to achieve the target of increasing nutrition standards among the children in the State while eliminating the menace of malnutrition. She focused on prevalence in malnutrition in tea garden areas of Assam and informed about the initiatives taken by Government of Assam to address the issue. Through timely implementation of all the action plans, the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to eradicate malnutrition will turn into reality very soon, she said.

Deputy Technical Adviser, Food & Nutrition Board, Kolkata Nagendra Nath Tiwari, in his address, threw light on how Poshan Abhiyaan has been envisaged as India's flagship scheme to improve the nutritional outcomes of adolescents, children, pregnant women and lactating mothers. (PIB)
