GUWAHATI: Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has hinted that the primary schools in the State would be closed in case there is a further steep rise of COVID-19 positive cases.
Interacting with reporters at Sarupeta in Barpeta district on Saturday, Sarma said that the government would be compelled to close down the primary schools if the COVID-19 scene deteriorates in the State. He, however, ruled out the possibility of imposing lockdown in the State as it would hit the common and also the poor people.

Since the highest number of positive cases (153) was detected in Kamrup Metropolitan district on Friday, the Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu on Saturday said the administration is taking all steps including ramping up COVID tests to keep the situation under control. Pegu too said if the situation arises the administration will close down schools.
