GUWAHATI: In concert with other parts of the country, teachers of the State on Monday began a signature campaign in support of their demands for revival of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), regularization of the services of all contractual teachers, deletion of 'anti-teachers' provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, stoppage of public-private partnership in the education sector and nationwide implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
Assam State Primary Teachers' Association (ASPTA) secretary-general Ratul Chandra Goswami told The Sentinel that today's agitational programme was undertaken under the banner of All India Primary Teachers' Federation and the signature campaign will continue till August 25. He said that they will send memorandums in connection with their demands to the President of India, the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Assam on September 5, which is celebrated as Teachers Day.
Goswami further said that if their demands are not met, then they will stage a one-hour protest at the offices of the District Elementary Education Officers (DEEOs) on September 20 next. In the next phase, they will stage a dharna at the office of the Director of Elementary Education (DEE) at Kahilipara here on November 15, he added.
