GUWAHATI: Ataur Rahman, CGM of the APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) and prime accused in the APDCL recruitment exam scam, on Monday surrendered before the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell.
The Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell had arrested 10 people last Friday in connection with the recruitment exam scam. They were Dipankar Dihingia, OSD to APDCL Chairman; Sasanka Saikia, LDA, GU; Tridip Sarma, a person of Expedia ESolutions outsourced by GU; Babilon Kakati, private security of GU; and six employees of NEICOM - Dulumoni Deka, Farha Alam, Jayanta Deka, Kankan Sarma, Kaushik Das, and Biswajit Barman.
The APDCL conducted the recruitment examinations for the posts of office-cum-field assistants, sahayaks and light vehicle drivers on February 17, 2019, and April 28, 2019, with the help of a third party, NEICOM. There were allegations of anomalies in holding the examinations. After investigation, the CM's Special Vigilance Cell registered a case 04/2021 u/s 120B/420/468/471 IPC, r/w Section 7/13(b) of PC (Amendment) Act, 2014 and arrested the 10 people.
Ataur Rahman and the 10 arrested persons were produced before the court of the special judge on Monday. The court remanded six of them to five days' custody of the CM's Special Vigilance Cell. They are Ataur Rahman, Dipankar Dihingia, Sasanka Saikia, Tridip Sarma, Jayanta Deka and Biswajit Barman. Ataur Rahman was a member of the Examination Evaluation and Monitoring Committee when the recruitment examinations were held. According to sources, more APDCL officials are likely to be summoned for interrogation by the CM's Special Vigilance Cell.
