Guwahati: Several Political parties of Assam came together on Thursday to stage a protest against move to privatize Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) in Guwahati.

Hundreds of protester from the political parties of Assam, including Indian National Congress (INC), Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Anchalik Gana Morcha, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Aam Admi Party (AAP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Anchalik Gana Morcha, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Aam Admi Party (AAP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Asom Sangrami Mancha (ASM), Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), Revolutionary Communist Party of India (RCPI), staged the protest giving Anti-government slogans in front of the Bijuli Bhawan (Electricity Department) in Paltan Bazar in Guwahati.

On the other hand, the front gate of the Electricity Department was closed to prevent the protest and Police and security forces were placed before the protest began.

The Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, Ajit Kumar Bhuyan said, "Not only the APDCL, all the Electricity departments, but the government is also trying to privatize all the public sector enterprises across the country."

He further said, Just because the people of Assam did not raise their voice on time and did not hold any protest against the government's decision to privatize public sector enterprises, the government is constantly enacting Anti-people's law in the state one over one.

Earlier, more than a hundred employees of Central Trade Unions (CTU) and federation workers staged a protest on November 19 against the government's decision to privatize public sector enterprises at Noonmati Refinery in Guwahati where they claimed that the government's policies are anti-people strongly opposed the government's labour laws and lack of initiative or policies to address unemployment issues.
