GUWAHATI: Locals of Chandrapur have continued their protest against the move of the GMC (Gauhati Municipal Corporation) to shift the dumping ground from Boragaon to Chandrapur.
The protest is being staged under the banner of 'Dumping Ground Birodhi Mancha, Chandrapur' since June 28. On Saturday, the members of the organization constiuted seven groups and conducted awareness meetings at 22 villages under Chandrapur.
The organization's coordinator Nitul Kalita said, "Despite protesting for around two weeks, the government has not yet given any positive response. They have also not taken any initiative to hold discussions with the residents of Chandrapur."
He underlined that on Sunday, the protestors will not allow the GMC vehicles to enter the dumping ground on the premises of the Thermal Power Project. A public meeting will also be organized to discuss the issue on Sunday.
