GUWAHATI: Yet another massive protest broke out near the Silsako Beel in Guwahati after a team from the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and district administration arrived at the location of the demarcation of the Silsako Beel on Thursday.
The protesters engaged in sloganeering against the state government and several government departments and officials as they demanded a complete stop to the ongoing eviction process. They mentioned that the state government can give land to capitalists from outside but has no resources for the people of the region. Meanwhile, GMDA chairman Narayan Deka, who was also present, mentioned that the minimum area required for flood mitigation processes will be cleared. He also mentioned that the evicted people would receive compensation from the state government and that the chief minister has called for affordable housing options.
