GUWAHATI: As the stir around SI recruitment scam is yet to be neutralized, another alleged scam has stunned the police administration.

Recently, an FIR was lodged at Azara Police Station against a student who allegedly cracked the JEE Main examination with a proxy candidate.

According to the FIR, the student appeared in the JEE Main Examination on September 5, 2020 at Ion Digital Zone, Borjhar. A police officer from Azara PS said that the complainant – Mitradev Sarmah has also provided electronic evidence against the accused student.

"According to the evidence received, the candidate himself revealed that he came out of the examination hall after doing biometrics with the help of an invigilator and someone else appeared in the examination in place of him. As far the information received, the candidate obtained 99.8 per cent and AIR rank without appearing in the examination," stated the FIR.

In the electronic evidence the student also revealed that an educational institution from the city helped him in this entire process.

"The candidate confessed that his father had paid a huge sum of money approximately Rs 15-20 lakhs for the purpose. Both the parents of the candidate are doctors," the FIR stated.

In the FIR, the complainant suggested that the matter may be brought to the National Testing Agency (NTA) – the body which is responsible for the conducting the JEE Main examination. He also submitted the FIR copy to the NTA and Crime Branch Assam Police.

Meanwhile, a case 624/2020 u/s 120/419/420/406 IPC, r/w sections 66 (B) of IT Act has been registered in this regard and the further investigation is on.
