Guwahati: The Guwahati police on Monday detained some leaders of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), including Debabrata Saikia after they staged a protest in front of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Guwahati.

Not only in Guwahati, but the Congress party is staging protests in Delhi too against summoned issued to Rahul Gandhi to appear before them in connection with the National Herald case.

''BJP has crushed democracy and the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma allowed police to stop us from practicing our democratic rights. Today we staged a protest against the summon notice issued by ED to National Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case,'' Saikia said while speaking to the media.

''APCC holds protest against ED summons of @RahulGandhi. APCC President @BhupenKBorah , ACLP leader @DsaikiaOfficial @MPAbdulKhaleque @RGoswami87 @JakirSikdarMLA were amongst the arrested by @assampolice The protest slogan was #NaDarengeNaJhukenge,'' Assam Congress tweeted.

According to Saikia, both Sonia and Rahul have been summoned in a case that was dismissed by the court in the year 2015.

Meanwhile, the Rahul Gandhi on Monday appeared before the investigating agency.

In the national capital too, the Congress workers were detained by the Delhi Police near the party headquarters.
