GUWAHATI: Shah Alam Talukdar, the prime accused in the Ranjit Bora murder case, was killed in police firing on Saturday in the wee hours at Amsing, Jorabat. According to reports, he fled police custody at Botahghuli in the city on Thursday night.

DCP (East) Surjeet Singh Panesar said while talking to the media, "Shah Alam Talukdar, after seven days in Dispur Police custody, was taken to Satgaon Police Station in connection with another dacoity case."

Alam told the police that would show the other accused and weapons. "And accordingly, they took him to Botahghuli, from where he fled," the DCP said.

The police were searching for him with their five to six teams. And according to information, he was hiding in Amsing, Jorabat, in a house. On a search operation, he fired, and in retaliation, the police fired him. After the firing, they identified him as Shah Alam, and they found a pistol with him. From there, he was taken to the GMCH, where he was declared dead. According to the GMCH source, two bullet wounds were found in the chest of the deceased. Ranjit Borah's wife, talking to media, said Ranjit Borah will now get peace because of the 'death' of his killer.

It may be noted that on November 21, when Ranjit Bora, the distributor of Purabi Dairy, was heading for the bank to deposit money, two bike-borne miscreants arrived, opened fire at him in the Panjabari area in broad daylight, and fled with the money.
