GUWAHATI: Governor Gulab Chand Kataria attended the national-level higher education teachers’ conference, 2023 on Transformative Reforms in Higher Education in the light of NEP2020 at the BKB Auditorium in Gauhati University here on Tuesday.

Organized by the Vidya Bharati Uchcha Shiksha Sansthan (VBUSS), Assam Prant in association with Gauhati University, the conference was attended by the teachers of higher educational institutions of Assam. In his address to the assembly, the Governor stated that the realization of the visionary NEP 2020’s objectives largely rests on the aptitude and capacity of the teaching fraternity. Reiterating the pivotal role played by the educators, who bear the responsibility of moulding the nation's future by imparting the essence of value-based education to their students, the Governor said that commitment and dedication of the teachers hold the key in improving the education landscape of the state.

Delving into India’s ageless knowledge and wisdom, the Governor extolled the historical legacy of Bharat, which has been renowned since time immemorial for its scholarly pursuits. The nation has been an envy to the world due to its robust knowledge ecosystem, exemplified by institutions like Nalanda, Taxila and others. These institutions attracted eager scholars from every corner of the globe to Bharat. The Governor further emphasized that education should not merely be an acquisition of knowledge but a nurturing ground for honing essential skills and fostering development. He observed that, NEP 2020 places a significant emphasis on skill-based education, thereby underscoring the importance of educators in equipping their students with the 21st century specific technical knowledge. The ultimate goal, he opined, should be to kindle an educational fire within students, motivating them to travel the extra mile to become masters in their chosen fields. He also reiterated on the need of empowering the students to become creators of employment opportunities.

He also underscored the importance of youth led development. He said that the demographic advantage India enjoys with a burgeoning youth population enables the country to embrace changes in the development dynamics. Given that the nation's future is intricately tied to its youth, he asked teachers to instill in their students a holistic education encompassing values and skills to take on the challenges of Industry 4.0. This, he exhorted confidence, would empower the youth to tread the path of righteousness and contribute to the prosperity of the nation. Speaking on the implementation of NEP 2020 in Assam the Governor expressed that the state has taken several significant steps to implement the provisions of the national education policy. The Governor in this regard said that further noted that all the higher educational institutions in the state should work collectively to ensure full realization of NEP 2020.
