GUWAHATI: The All Assam Government Undertaking Public Sector Employees' Union (AAGUPSEU) has urged the State government to revive the ailing public sector units (PSUs) of the State for solving the problem of unemployment and reviving the economy of the State.
Addressing the media here on Monday, union general secretary NilamHazarika said, "The revival of the ailing PSUs of the State needs goodwill of the State government. Most of the public sector units in the State are ailing financially. The employees are not paid as per the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations.
"The government should pay the salaries to all PSU employees where the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations have not been implemented as yet at the revised scales from December, 2020 without any condition. The major problem of public sector units is the lack of permanent or full-fledged MDs in them. The few MDs who head such corporations are government officers staggering under huge burden of works in various departments. They can hardly spare time for the development of corporations or boards.
This has led development works of such PSUs to a grinding halt. "In his 2020-21 Budget speech the State Finance Minister did announce the implementation of the New Public Enterprise Policy, 2019. However, that policy has not been implemented as yet."
