GUWAHATI: The Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project under the Smart City Development Agency Ltd has the potential for job generation and wooing tourists. The project under ATDC (Assam Tourism Development Corporation) has many other departments like Inland Water Transport, GMC, Kamrup (M) District Administration, Fishery Department, Guwahati Police Commissionerate and others involved.

The project aims at giving Guwahati what it should look like with its natural richness. It wants to make the riverfront in Guwahati look like its Sabarmati counterpart in Gujarat.

The riverfront will have parks, seating areas to view sunrise and river views, spaces for holding cultural shows, food courts, light shows, etc. All such works will create job avenues for the unemployed in the state.

The Guwahati Smart City Development Agency Ltd also has some other projects under it. The agency completed phase 1 of the ITMS (Integrated Traffic Management System). It will complete the entire project in March 2023.

To reduce pollution in the city, the agency has taken up a venture to run CNG (compressed natural gas) buses. "Our job is to make Guwahati look beautiful and woo tourists," said an official.
