Guwahati: Rs 74.5 lakh worth of cash was recovered from a house in Guwahati city in Assam after an operation carried out by the Crime Branch and City Police at Solapara in Guwahati on July 28.
The operation was carried out following information from sources about the presence of narcotic substances on the fourth floor of Kalachini apartment at Solapara.
"An operation was conducted by Crime Branch and Guwahati Police in Solapara area on 28-07-2020. An accounted cash approximately Rs 74,05,600 suspected to be utilized in financing of illicit traffic of Narcotic substances has been recovered and duly seized. Three persons have been arrested", Guwahati police later informed via a tweet posted on its official Twitter handle.
According to the officials, the apartment owner Sangita Laishangbam has been arrested. Besides, two more people, identified as Sam Laithangbam and Thangkhosat, have also been arrested in connection with the case.
One of the accused Sangita Laishangbam was earlier arrested in Basistha Police Station in case no: 449/19 under section 22 of the NDPS Act where she was found in possession of narcotic substances.
She was also constantly in touch with known drug peddlers and was suspected of supplying drugs to Tushar Ali who was arrested in Bharalumukh Police Station in case no:315/2020 under section 22 (b) of NDPS Act.
