GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister of Assam and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who has been nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will file his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election on Tuesday. The Rajya Sabha seat of Assam fell vacant after present Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary resigned after his victory in the last Assam Assembly polls (2021). Sonowal is likely to win the election uncontested as the Opposition does not have sufficient number of MLAs. The election will be held on October 4.
