GUWAHATI: A grand function was organized at the local head office of the State Bank of India in Guwahati on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on Tuesday. Renowned litterateur and journalist Manoj Kumar Goswami, who has been selected for the Sahitya Akademi award for Assamese language in the year 2022, was the chief guest at the function and was also honoured by the bank.

The programme was presided over by Vincent M. D., Chief General Manager of the Bank, who explained the importance of language very beautifully in his address. He pointed out the importance of contact with customers while describing the language as a symbol of heart-touching emotions. The Chief Guest, Manoj Kumar Goswami, said that any language can develop only if it keeps its environment open and incorporates words from other languages. He said that language will survive only when it is prevalent among the masses and is able to become compatible in this age of the internet, stated a press release.

The General Manager (Network 1) of the Bank, Suranjana Dutt, and General Manager (Network 2), Lunkmin Thangboi, were also present on the occasion. Deputy General Manager and Circle Development Officer Madan L.S. delivered a vote of thanks.
