GUWAHATI: Around 600 BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) workers joined the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee at a programme held at Rajiv Bhawan here on Monday.
Some of new joinees to the party are - Swapan Kumar Mandal, Bali Ram Boro, and Sujit Kumar Das.
While addressing the joining meeting, APCC president Ripun Bora said the 2021 Assam Assembly Election will act as the second freedom movement for Assam.
Bora said, in 1947 under Mahatma Gandhi the country was freed from the British rule under 'do or die' slogan. Similarly, in the 2021 elections, the Congress workers will stage the second freedom movement for the people of Assam. The movement will be against the BJP rule, Bora stressed.
"As the Britishers had to back up, the BJP will have to do the same. The country would not have developed if the Britishers didn't leave. Similarly, the future of Assam will be blank if it is not freed from the BJP rule," Bora underlined.
Various senior leaders of the party were present in the programme including MLA Rockybul Hussain and MP Pradyut Bordoloi.
