GUWAHATI: Chanchal Kumar, IAS, who has recently taken charge as Secretary, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India, visited NEDFi on Friday. He was also accompanied by Devajit Khound, Senior Economic Adviser, and Angshuman Dey, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of DoNER. In his first visit to NEDFi, which is under the administrative control of the Ministry of DoNER, Kumar reviewed NEDFi’s performance as the premier lending institute in the North East.
On NEDFi’s behalf, PVSLN Murty, Chairman, and the Managing Director presented the corporation’s various initiatives that have been taken up for the development of the region. During the review, Kumar applauded NEDFi’s financial performance, initiatives towards financial inclusion and service in the unserved and underserved areas through innovative lending models, the development of the startup ecosystem in the region, and mentoring services to the youth.
During his visit, he also interacted with artisans from Assam, Mizoram, and Nagaland who have undergone training on banana fibre-based handicraft development and handed over a banana fibre extraction machine to a group of artisans from Sesawng Mizoram. Chanchal Kumar also virtually attended the launch of 5G use case applications, 5G training labs in NE states, and the 5G Experience Centre at Tech City, Guwahati, and addressed the gathering, stated a press release.
