GUWAHATI: The representatives of the All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani staged a protest in Guwahati to highlight several of their demands.

The key demands of the organisation include the granting of the ST status to the community before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, presenting Kosh Rajbongshi candidates for the Barpeta, Mangaldai and Guwahati constituencies in the Lok Sabha Elections and selecting a Koch Rajbongshi candidate when a Rajya Sabha seat from Assam is available next. They also demanded that the state make the arrangements for the necessary land and the funds for the setting up of a Chilarai Bhawan and increase the amount of funds allocated towards the Koch Rajbongshi development council.

Members of the Sadao Asom Madhyana Bhojan Karmachari Union also staged a protest on Wednesday. They demanded the remuneration of the workers be increased to Rs 10,000 and the posts be regularised. They also demanded that the government pay a one-time compensation of Rs 3,00,000 if any of their members lose their jobs for any reason and medical assistance in case of any accidents at work. They also demanded that the Midday meal scheme and the related works should not be privatised.

The Buniyadi Vidyalaya Matri Association, Assam also staged a protest in favour of their demands. They demanded that the School Matri posts be filled through the association. They also demanded that 29,761 vacant positions not be filled directly by the government as well as the creation of permanent posts for the postions.

Karuna Kanta Pathak, of the Sadou Asom COVID-19 Safai Karmachari Santha, who had started an indefinite hunger strike as a mark of protest, continued his protest and undertook a Bhagawad Path as a mark of protest against the government.

The members of the All Assam Adarani Driver's Association continued their protests on the second day after they embarked on the same yesterday. The members of the association are demanding the restarting of the Adarani Scheme along with the reinstallation of the employees and the payment of the due arrears. A statement released by the organisation mentioned that the decision taken by the government without consulting the drivers and workers has led to severe problems for the pregnant ladies of the financially backward classes.
