GUWAHATI: A team of Guwahati Crime Branch visited the national capital to meet officials of Delhi Police, regarding the case of arrested former JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) student Sharjeel Imam. The Crime Branch of Guwahati Police registered a case against Imam, one of the leaders of anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) protests at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi, for his provocative statement regarding Assam. According to police sources, there are possibilities that he will be taken into the custody of Guwahati Crime Branch. He had allegedly given the inflammatory statement during a demonstration at Shaheen Bagh. He said, ‘Agitate and cut off the chicken-neck corridor to isolate Assam from India.”
