GUWAHATI: Congress MLA from Baghbor LAC, Sherman Ali Ahmed was on Tuesday produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and he was again remanded to two-day police custody. Meanwhile, the MLA's voice sample was collected by the Forensic Science Laboratory on Tuesday.

After the recent Gorukhuti incident, Sherman Ali Ahmed made some 'insulting comments' against the martyrs of the Assam Agitation. His comments led to public outrage and various organizations lodged FIRs against him in different police stations in the State. He was arrested last Saturday based on a case (510/21) registered against him in Panbazar Police Station following an FIR lodged by Assam Jatiyatabadi Parishad. The case was registered under section 153/153 (A) of the IPC (which makes the promotion of disharmony, enmity or feelings of hatred or ill-will between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities punishable).
