GUWAHATI: Noted artistes Indreswar Pegu and Namita Bhattacharya have been nominated for the Shilpi Bota 2021.
The award will conferred by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Shilpi Diwas (January 17, 2021) during a programme organized by the Assam government's Directorate of Cultural Affairs in Golaghat.
The award carries Rs 2 lakh, an angabastra and a citation.
The Assam government has been presenting the award every year since 1999. Born in 1951, Indreswar Pegu was given the status of Mising Singer by the All India Radio Dibrugarh centre in 1978.
He wrote the script for the first Mising movie Migang. He has also acted in National Award winning short film Sons of Abutani: The Misings and documentary film Swahid (Martyr) Kamala Miri.
He has written several books related to the Mising community including – Mising Samaj Aru Sanskriti, Mibu, and Nitam Daksiri.
Namita Bhattarcharya is a noted playback singer. She was born in 1957 and has lent her voice in many films like Tora Mai, Morom, Moromi, Raja Harishchandra, Kallol, Ashroy, Manasi, Mon Aru Morom, Xadori, Raja, Ghor Sansar, and Puja.
