SI recruitment scam: Another accused Saruj Sarma arrested

Another accused in the SI recruitment scam has been arrested at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati.

Guwahati: Saruj Sarma, an accused in the infamous SI recruitment scam has been arrested in Guwahati. He has been on the run since his name came under the scam.

The prime accused, and former DIG PK Dutta took Sarma's names during his police interrogation. Sarma was arrested on Friday from LGBI Aiport, Guwahati. Accused Sarma is related to Akshay Telecommunication, the company that got the sub-contract for conducting the recruitment exam for Sub Inspectors.

The SI recruitment exam which was held on September 20, for 597 posts was called off due to paper leaks on social media. The test now would be conducted in the month of November.

The company Akshay Telecommunication, was allegedly connected with the leaking of the paper. Their office in Bongaigaon was sealed by police. The police also raided the houses of Akshay Chand Baid, and Rubul Hazarika, the owner, and partner of Akshay Telecommunication, respectively. The latter, who has been absconding, surrendered in Nalbari.

Earlier, on Wednesday, prime accused PK Dutta was bought to Assam in the wee hours of October 7, who is now in six day CID Custody. Another prime accused, a former BJP youth leader, Diban Deka was arrested on October 1. He is also under 6-day custody of CID.
