GUWAHATI: An organization representing the evicted families of Silsako, namely Silsaku Paror Ussed Pratirudhi Raij (SPUPR), on Saturday alleged that a few of those evicted recently are being offered a minimum compensation amount while those evicted from the encroached land earlier are being ignored.

The organization made the allegation and demanded rehabilitation of all the evicted families during a press meet at the Guwahati Press Club. The press meet was addressed by leaders of the SPUPR, including Gayatri Bori, Neyna Begum, Juli Phukan, Indumoni Bora and Bitumoni Das Begum.

They alleged that the families evicted during the eviction drives against encroachment in Silsako beel conducted on May 13, 2022, February 27 and 28, 2023 as well as that on March 1 and 2, 2023 were completely ignored and not considered for receiving compensation, whereas a few of the families evicted only recently are being offered a meager amount as compensation. Alleging that the government was trying to divide the evicted people by showing favour to one section while ignoring others, they demanded that all those evicted during the earlier drives be considered equally for rehabilitation.
